Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent defended four early-game opportunities in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
