The Substance

Director Coralie Fargeat's daring commentary addresses the tyranny of female beauty as well as the feared consequences of advancing years. Hollywood star Demi Moore presents an inspired portrayal playing Elisabeth, a 50-year-old actress forced into presenting an aerobics show on TV. The Woman in Cabin 10 Film

Presence

The acclaimed director pushes his film-making abilities with this nifty paranormal narrative filmed completely from the viewpoint of the phantom. As a family including mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their recent residence, the camera – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. The daughter appears sensing the supernatural presence, and it looks like protective of her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that avoids overstaying, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. October 11th, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere

This Self-Referential Film

The iconic actor wholeheartedly adopts his eccentric image via this autobiographical spoof. He portrays an egotistical film star called Nicolas Cage who takes on a million-dollar gig to visit a celebration on the Spanish island for the wealthy superfan Javi. Recruited by the intelligence agency to gather intel on the potential kingpin, the actor's unique performing skills comes in handy. Saturday 11 October, evening, on Channel 4

This Creepy Thriller

Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller stands strong even without a continuation. Set in 1978 Denver, a series of disappearances has left the local kids anxious. After Finney is kidnapped by “the Grabber” and held captive in a cellar, he fears the worst. However, the old telephone on the wall repeatedly calls, with eerie communicators offering help, as the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen could save him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, Film4

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the conflict between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation about the fallen religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Garfield plays the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye set about profiting from the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of tacky decor, overdone appearance and insincerity, yet Chastain succeeds to show the character with compassion. October 14th, 1.15am, the Film4 channel

Black Bag

This period's second offering by the same director presents a espionage tale as tight similar to the collars used by Fassbender's British agent. He receives a mission with uncovering a traitor inside the organization from five suspects – among them is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Each performer are experts of understated style, so a delicious mind game of deception or honesty takes place. The supporting cast take part the clever spy entertainment. Friday 17 October, multiple time slots, the Sky channel
