Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
